The World Affairs Council of New Orleans (WACNO) invites you to the premiere of the documentary “Transplanted Roots.”

The screening will take place on February 23, 2026, one day before the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
This deeply human film shares the personal testimonies and lived experiences of Ukrainian refugees who have rebuilt their lives in Louisiana after being forced from their homes by war. Through intimate storytelling, the documentary explores themes of displacement, resilience, and the challenges of rebuilding life far from home, offering a powerful and personal perspective on the human consequences of war.
After the screening, stay for a discussion with the director and the protagonists, followed by an audience Q&A.

On the eve of February 24, marking the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, WACNO organized a screening of the documentary Transplanted Roots at the Broad Theater. The film tells the deeply personal stories of Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes and have since rebuilt their lives in Louisiana with resilience, dignity, and hope.
The event was sold out, and the atmosphere in the theater was both solemn and profoundly moving. The audience responded with empathy and compassion, and there was a palpable sense of solidarity in the room. Many attendees expressed their unwavering support for Ukraine and for the displaced people who continue to endure the consequences of war. The evening became not only a film screening but also a space for reflection, unity, and shared humanity.
Following the film, the director and several of the protagonists who were present offered brief remarks about the creation of the documentary, sharing personal reflections and behind-the-scenes insights. The audience engaged in an open discussion, asking meaningful questions and expressing compassion and support.
